I highly recommend this IF you have plenty of space for the kids to ride around.

Each of our kids received one of these cars as a Christmas gift last year (2010). Our youngest boy had just turned 1 year old, our little girl was 3 and a half, and our oldest boy was getting ready to turn 7 at the time. This was an INSTANT hit! Here it is almost a year later and all 3 of them still use them multiple times on a daily basis (they are now 2, 4, and getting ready to turn 8). If they aren’t racing them, they are playing chase on them, and even during tv time/movies they prefer sitting on them rather than chairs (we call it the kids drive in movie).

There is a bit of assembly before they can be used. 10-15 minutes max per car. I did not have any assembly issues and none of the 3 cars have had any maintenance issues in their first year of HEAVY use.

It’s very cool how you can just turn the steering wheel back and forth to make the car move. They do not go very fast (on a level surface) this way, so it’s a fairly casual ride. Our kids usually push the floor with their feet so that they can go fast, especially when they are racing

We have all Hardwood/Pergo floors and no carpet. I don’t know how well these would work on carpet, but my guess is they wouldn’t work well due to the smaller wheels. We have never taken these outside on the concrete nor asphalt. I’m positive they would work great, but I can’t comment on the durability on such a surface. Since we don’t have carpet, these do make a fair amount of noise. There have been many times I had to try and quiet the kids down or tell them not to ride while I was trying to listen to a television show, on the phone, or talking with friends/family.

It claims it can support a weight capacity of 220 lbs…I have no doubt about that since they supported mom and dad as well. I’m the heaviest at 195 lbs and it works great.

We have the previous iteration of the plasma car and with 4 grandkids competing to use it, decided to add another. The plasma car is easy to put together (65 year old Nana had no problem!), and is a favorite outdoor toy for the kids. It does pick up some speed, and one would think there are safety issues in that, but the grandkids (ages, 3,6,6,8) intuitively know when to put down their feet to slow the vehicle. The quality of the toy is great and we have no worries about it breaking and causing injury while they are riding it.
